In the Christmas Spirit: Holiday Songs and Readings is back this holiday season!

From Executive Director, Gian Paul Morelli:

Starting Christmas 2012, some variation of IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: Holiday Songs and Readings has been performed every other year as a ‘thank you’ from your Columbia Theatre.   Always free to the community, always including holiday sweets and nibbles, with warmed cider, it was a simple expression of gratitude.

Over the years there have been any number of cast members who have contributed their own stories to the event (Don Correll, Melinda Pallotta of Love Street Playhouse in Woodland come to mind)  But the cast has seemed always to be the same:  Jennifer Cheney, Mike Cheney, Leslie Slape, Dennis Harris with his musical interludes, and me, Gian.

This collection of stories and songs have included such stalwarts of the season as the opening description from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” Martin Bell’s “Barrington Bunny” a poignant  tale told in a child’s voice; O.Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” and even a reference to the irony of celebrating Christmas during war time.

This year, favorites include “Toy Piano,” “Is there a Santa Claus,” “Kiri,” “Tale-Teller,” “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” “The Wish Ring,” and “Miriam.”

You are invited to join us online for our 2020 rendition, this delightfully simple, emotionally satisfying romp through the most sentimental of stories.  And as Charles Dickens wrote in 1843:

I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it.

Their faithful Friend and Servant, C.D.
