Continuing a tradition of insuring access to arts education The Columbia Theatre Association offers an array of arts education activities throughout the year for those ages 8-13 years of age. The Columbia Theatre is seeking gifts to support an expansion of our theatre/performance workshop training into the summer months. It will also provide up to 10 scholarships.

Our goal is $10,000. A one to one challenge grant has been graciously provided by the Don and Margaret Fuesler Foundation in the amount of $5,000.

The Columbia Theatre provides a number of opportunities for students to learn stagecraft both onstage and behind the scenes utilizing the full technical capabilities of the theatre. Lead by our professional staff and qualified theatre instructors, our Winter Theatre Workshop commences January and culminates with a fully–staged production of “The Rainbow Fish Musical” by Austin Zumbro in March.  The Summer Theatre Workshop in 2020 will involve 8 to 17 year olds in theatre classes and participation in a delightful, fully-staged community musical. Up to 60 students will participate and with the exception of some appropriate adult roles, the final result will be a fully-staged musical theatre production run entirely by students and utilizing the full technical capabilities of the Columbia Theatre.  The faculty will include instructors in acting, dance, vocal music, and technical theatre.   There are several major musical titles under consideration at this time.

The objective is to develop performance skills, build self-esteem, encourage creative thinking, teach discipline and purpose, and provide a positive social outlet for kids regardless of financial circumstance.  It is also about celebrating as a community this unique community arts resource that is the Columbia Theatre.
